Looking at the above photo Gran I don't remember this team playing for the school unless it was the senior team who drew players from all over the school. Both Colin and Ebby would be looking to leaving school round about that time. Edgar, Barry and all the others were a year or so behind Colin and Ebby and I left school at fifteen which was 1947 but I may be wrong as usual.03/03/2010 18:16:40

I started RH in September 1949. At this time Tony Lock, John Bradford and Edgar Fellows were in the 4th year. The main team at that time contained players like Eddie Wilkinson, Les Tate, Johnnie Pattison, John Morris. So probably this was a team made up of 5th formers and younger boys. The other players mentioned were not at RH when I started.04/03/2010 10:04:40

Ken, Barry was born in July 1934, a month after me, we both started at Oxbridge in 1939 and left in 1945, he for Richard Hind, me for Sec. He is 13 on this photo. You are correct about Colin and Ebby. Stan Denham was in Barrys class. I think Edgar Fellowes was a year younger. Barry went into I.C.I. Billingham Apprentice School in 1950 and served his time as an Electrician. He was captain of Synthonia A in 1950. Next season South Bank Juniors, then South Bank and then part-time Sheffield Wednesday. We both went National Service in R.A.F. in Aug/sept 1955 and were square-bashing together at Hednesford. He played for R.A.F. U.K., I played for R.A.F. Far East. After demob in 1957 he was transferred to Norwich where the Player of the Year trophy is still given in his name to this day. I left the area in 1969 but can let you know that Stan is still around in Billingham, Ebby last I heard was not in best of health. Go and see Colin and let him jog your memory! 04/03/2010 14:49:49

Bob Irwin remembers the names well. I was a 'new boy' at the same time but in a different capacity. The senior team he mentions played friendly matches mainly against Grammar Schools of the Tees-side/Cleveland area, including Great Ayton Friends' School.04/03/2010 14:50:47

The boy in between Edgar Fellowes and Barry on the back row was he called Brian Kelly? Colin Richards, Ebby Neal and Barry Butler used to go to Blackpool for a weeks holiday in the summer after we had all left school along with a lot of other boys. Gus Ferguson's name rings a bell. One year there was up to fourteen of us all in the same digs along with my Mother and Father who used to do all the booking for us. We were always playing cards till all hours of the morning and I remember a chamber pot getting broken and we all clubbed together to buy a new one and drew a couple of names out of the hat to go to buy a new one. We parcelled it up and presented it to the gent who ran the boarding house at a big presentation on the steps of the house. Once again HAPPY DAYS05/03/2010 19:43:22

This team turned out some good senior players apart from Barry Butler - Edgar Fellowes played for Middlesbrough Juniors, Whitby Town & Shildon before his career was cut short with knee trouble. Ebby Neal was also a good player, Billingham Synthonia being one of his teams & Colin Richards being another good all round sportsman. What are the names of the three remaining boys - maybe Ken Sawyer can help?07/03/2010 11:56:22

I keep on putting my memory cap and I think the goalkeeper was called Cartwright.11/03/2010 18:52:45
